Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday met with President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Xi stressed that China and Equatorial Guinea are good friends, with bilateral relations featuring high-level political mutual trust, all-round pragmatic cooperation and profound people-to-people friendship.
In recent years, the two countries have made solid progress in cooperation in various fields and collaborated closely in international affairs, he noted.
China will work to firmly support Equatorial Guinea, expand practical cooperation, deepen cooperation in defense and security, help facilitate the diversified development of Equatorial Guinea's economy, and open up new prospects for the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries, the Chinese president said.
Xi added that China is ready to work closely with Equatorial Guinea to ensure the FOCAC summit's success, and push for the sustained development of China-Africa relations.
Obiang said the relationship between Equatorial Guinea and China is based on profound friendship and high-level mutual trust, adding that the two sides have achieved fruitful results in bilateral cooperation and maintained close coordination in international affairs.
Equatorial Guinea looks forward to further maintaining close multilateral cooperation with China, he said, adding that his country firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and supports the Chinese government's efforts in realizing national reunification.
