Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday met with Guinea-Bissau's President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who is in China for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Xi said China is willing to work with Guinea-Bissau to carry forward the traditional friendship, promote strategic cooperation and safeguard each country's sovereignty, security and development interests.

Cooperation between the two sides in various fields has been pragmatic and efficient, with projects like cashew nut exports to China and the dispatch of a new batch of Chinese agricultural experts to Guinea-Bissau steadily progressing, Xi added.

He said China hopes that both sides will actively implement the outcomes of the FOCAC summit, injecting new momentum into the development of China-Guinea-Bissau and China-Africa relations, and work together to advance modernization in Africa and China.

Embalo said for Africa, China represents the future and is seen as a brotherly nation.

Guinea-Bissau is willing to be a reliable friend and partner of China and hopes to use the FOCAC summit as an opportunity to continuously deepen the friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries, Embalo said.
