Zhang Shuai and Kristina Mladenovic progressed into the women's doubles final after defeating Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in three sets on Wednesday.

China's Zhang and France's Mladenovic started strong in the opener, with Zhang continuing to show good form in the doubles after her early exit in the singles competition.

The Czech Republic's Siniakova won the French Open title with Coco Gauff before teaming with American Townsend to win Wimbledon this season. However, their opponents showed a better Grand Slam form on the day as Zhang/Mladenovic clinched the first frame 7-5.

Townsend and Siniakova were able to show some fight and they battled back in the second set, before going on to build a 4-love lead which eventually resulted in a 6-4 win to get level.

In the decider, Zhang and Mladenovic bounced back and they held on to win the third set and the match, 6-3.

They will play in Friday's final against Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok.
