Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed on Thursday China's commitment to working with Namibia to promote mutual development and prosperity and to build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, who is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Xi praised President Mbumba for his significant contributions to the success of the FOCAC summit, emphasizing that the summit highlighted the strong commitment of both China and Africa to advancing modernization together.
Xi noted that both the Communist Party of China and Namibia's South West Africa People's Organization are long-standing parties with extensive governance experience, and China is willing to deepen friendly cooperation between the two countries and their parties, share governance and administrative expertise, seize development opportunities, and jointly advance their modernization efforts.
Xi underscored the importance of aligning development strategies and exploring new areas of collaboration, such as agriculture, clean energy, infrastructure, energy and minerals, and technology. He said China encourages Chinese enterprises to invest in Namibia and hopes Namibia will continue to facilitate such investments. Additionally, China supports Namibia's role as a co-facilitator for the United Nations' Summit of the Future and is keen to enhance multilateral strategic cooperation, strengthen the Global South, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Mbumba expressed his honor at being invited to China for the FOCAC summit. He highlighted that the two outcome documents adopted at the summit would strengthen the brotherly relationship between Africa and China, promote cooperation across various fields, and guide the two nations towards a prosperous future.
Namibia is committed to fully implementing the summit's outcomes, enhancing communication with China, and boosting cooperation in agriculture, minerals, infrastructure, clean energy and aerospace, said Mbumba. He also reiterated Namibia's adherence to the one-China principle, support for China's sovereignty, endorsement of China's successful path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and backing of global initiatives put forward by President Xi aimed at fostering global peace and modernization.
During the summit, the two countries signed several bilateral agreements, including in fields related to the export of sheep and goat meat to China and other areas of development cooperation.
