Li Yong from Laiyuan County, Hebei Province, grew up in an ancient village at the foot of the Great Wall. In 2015 he gave up a job in the city to return to his hometown and become a volunteer Great Wall guardian. He patrols on foot every day, protecting the bricks and stones left by the people of the Ming Dynasty over 500 years ago.
