Chinese and African leaders called for enhanced cooperation on state governance during a high-level meeting on Thursday at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Co-chaired by China's top legislator Zhao Leji and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, the meeting emphasized collaboration in governance and modernization efforts.

Zhao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, highlighted President Xi Jinping's speech, noting that it marked a new chapter in China-Africa efforts to lead modernization in the Global South.

Zhao stressed the importance of drawing wisdom from China-Africa's traditional friendship and called for mutual support in exploring development paths suited to each nation's conditions. He also encouraged sharing experiences from reforms, opening up, development and improving livelihoods.

Additionally, Zhao proposed creating a platform within the FOCAC framework for exchanging state governance experience between China and Africa.

African leaders expressed hope of strengthening governance exchanges with China and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors.
