China firmly supports Sudan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, and security as well as holding its future firmly in its own hands, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday.

Xi made the remarks during his meeting with the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

China and Sudan have always been good friends through thick and thin, Xi said.

Noting this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Xi said China treasures the friendly tradition and strong mutual trust between the two countries and is willing to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields with the Sudanese side to push forward the steady development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Xi voiced the hope that the two sides will actively implement the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC summit and promote the quality and upgrading of cooperation between the two sides.

The Chinese president also hoped that Sudan would restore peace and stability as soon as possible and get back on the track of development.

China will continue to uphold justice for Sudanese friends on multilateral occasions such as the United Nations and to strive for a favorable external environment for the promotion of a political solution to the Sudan issue, he added.

Al-Burhan said that relations between Sudan and China are very friendly and strong.

China has implemented a large number of infrastructure projects in Sudan, making important contributions to the promotion of Sudan's economic development and improvement of people's livelihoods, he pointed out, adding that the Sudanese people have deep gratitude and respect for China.

The Sudanese side firmly adheres to the one-China policy and resolutely opposes all acts that undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Al-Burhan stressed.

Sudan is ready to work with China to actively implement the relevant outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC summit and to continue to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.
