Embroidery can be made beyond on cloth. In Tongren City, Guizhou Province, Yang Li integrated the features of Miao, Tujia and Dong ethnic embroidery products and created her independent craft—leaf-vein embroidery.

Each autumn, Yang Li picked leaves from primitive forests at famous Fanjing Mountain Scenic Area. After more than 30 processes of rubbing, washing, and drying, the whole vein is extracted in a razor-thin sheet.

Yang Li organized local embroiderers to learn leaf-vein embroidery skills. With patterns of flowers, birds, mountains and classic figures, leaves are injected with new vigor and life. She also shot videos and published them on social platforms to introduce the leaf-vein embroidery skills to more audience and promote their embroidery products.
