The Denver Nuggets have reached a four-year, $208 million contract extension with their star point guard Jamal Murray, ESPN reported on Saturday.

Murray was in the final year of the five-year, $158 million deal he signed with the Nuggets in 2019 for the 2024-25 season. The extension will give him a spike in salary from the 2025-26 campaign and keep him from hitting free agency.

Having been drafted by the Nuggets with the seventh pick in 2016, Murray has averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 assists per regular season game. Such numbers were far from good enough for him to be named an All-Star or selected into any of the All-NBA Teams, but Murray in the postseason was a different story.

Murray has been on four NBA playoff journeys with the Nuggets since he joined – he missed two in 2021 and 2022 due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his left knee. He averaged 24.2 points and 6.2 assists per game in the playoffs and left a series of epic highlights in multiple series.

Murray scored 50+ points in two games against the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference first round in 2020 and dropped 40 in Game 7 against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference semifinals, helping the Nuggets become the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit multiple times in one postseason.

Murray averaged 32.5 points per game in the Nuggets' 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals in 2023. He then delivered 10 assists per game in the NBA Finals for his side to beat the Miami Heat 4-1 and win their first NBA Championship.

Last season, the Nuggets finished the regular season with 57 wins and came in second in the West. They were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-3 in the Western semifinals. Murray struggled to shot 40.3 percent from the field in that series, getting only 18.4 points and 4.4 assists per game.
