Nestled in the mountains in Beijing's Mentougou District, Baipu Temple was built in the Liao Dynasty (916-1125). Over the course of its nearly thousand-year history, the temple has preserved a list of precious Buddhist cultural relics, including Master Yuanzheng's Pagoda. As a masterpiece of the architecture of the time, it provides valuable source material for the study of ancient Chinese Buddhism. Extensive reconstruction and renovation work began in 1998, and the temple continues to attract increasing numbers of visitors year after year.
