The death toll has risen to 14 and 43 others were injured due to multiple Israeli strikes on Syria's Hama countryside late on Sunday, state media SANA reported Monday citing local hospital officials.

Among the injured, six are in critical condition, according to SANA.

The Syrian military previously said it has shot down some missiles as Israeli forces carried out an air attack from the northwest of Lebanon targeting a number of military sites in the central region of Hama at around 11:20 p.m. (2020 GMT) on Sunday.

Israeli authorities rarely comment on individual strikes in Syria, but have repeatedly said they will not allow Iran to expand its presence there.
