Lewis Sherr, CEO of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), spoke highly of China Media Group's (CMG's) broadcasting of the U.S. Open that ended on September 8 and sought to establish long-term partnership with CMG.
A total of 11 players from the Chinese mainland participated in the U.S. Open this year, setting a new record. Shang Juncheng made the men's singles third round; Wang Yafan advanced to the women's singles round of 16; Zheng Qinwen reached the quarterfinals in the women's event.
Sherr said he's glad to see that tennis has been growing more and more popular around the world, especially in China, in recent years.
CMG and the USTA signed a memorandum of cooperation in November 2023 over copyright of the U.S. Open, co-organizing tennis tournaments and promoting youth development of tennis in China among other matters.
Sherr spoke highly of the long-time cooperation between CMG and the USTA. He said that CMG is a great partner with which to take the U.S. Open to the world and bring the excitement of the matches from New York to China. He also stressed the importance of making sure that the Chinese audience can watch their players compete at the U.S. Open as the country's players continue to imrove performances at various tournaments.
Sherr has expressed the USTA's intention of building a long-running partnership with CMG. Meanwhile, he also wished the best for CMG in co-hosting the coming China Open.
