The dance drama that inspired the film draws from the renowned Chinese painting, "A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains," currently on display at the Palace Museum in Beijing. Created by the Song Dynasty artist Wang Ximeng at the age of 18, this 11-meter-long scroll painting is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Chinese fine art.

The film delves into the life of Wang Ximeng and portrays his unwavering dedication to his craft. Although the core story revolves around the painting and its creator, the film goes beyond that narrative. It brings to life the stories of other artisans – seal carvers, silk weavers, stone cutters, brush makers, and ink craftsmen – each playing a vital role in China's cultural legacy.

While dance and film are distinct art forms, the film allows for a more detailed and intimate portrayal of the performers' expressions and movements. This close-up perspective enhances the audience's connection to the story, making it easier to become fully immersed in the narrative.
