The European Central Bank (ECB) on Thursday lowered its key interest rate by 25 basis points, the second such cut this year as inflation steadily heads toward the 2 percent target.
The latest reduction in borrowing costs brings the closely watched bank deposit rate down to 3.5 percent. The ECB lowered its main refinancing and marginal lending rates by 60 basis points each as part of a previously announced technical adjustment.
