China's Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi will face each other for the women's singles title at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao in China's Macao Special Administrative Region after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals on Saturday.
Sun knocked out Miwa Harimoto of Japan 12-10, 14-12, 9-11, 11-13, 11-3, 11-8.
"We played a great semifinal match today," Sun told reporters after the victory. "Miwa performed well. I can see that she improved a lot in skills and understanding of the game in recent years. I'm glad I won today. I wasn't in my best form, but it's great that I managed to win in the end."
Wang Yidi swept her compatriot Wang Manyu 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4 in the other semifinal match.
"I will continue to give my best efforts in the final and just be myself whoever I face," she said.
Sun pointed out that she and Wang are very familiar with each other, adding that she wants to simply enjoy the contest.
Lin Shidong of China competes against Wang Chuqin of China in the men's singles semifinals at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao in China's Macao Special Administrative Region, September 14, 2024. /CFP
On the men's side, Lin Shidong beat Chinese compatriot and World No. 1 Wang Chuqin 11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9 in the semifinals. He will meet Dang Qiu of Germany in the final.
"I think I did well in focusing on every play. I didn't pay excessive attention to the score either after claiming the first two games, or after conceding the third game. I was just trying to play every shot well until the end," Lin said.
"I played Dang Qiu twice with one win and one loss, so I will study him carefully," Lin added. "I will just focus on the match and be myself."
