Chinese paddlers Sun Yingsha and Lin Shidong defeated their opponents in the women's singles and men's singles finals respectively to win both titles at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao in China's Macao Special Administrative Region on Sunday.

Sun faced her compatriot Wang Yidi in the final and beat Wang Yidi 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8,11-4.

"I found myself in a better form in the fifth and sixth games," Sun told reporters. "I came to play in Macao right after the 2024 Paris Games without systematic training sessions. But my performance improved quickly as I continued to play at the tournament."

"The new Olympic period has begun. Maybe it's still too early to think about the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics because it's still four years away. But winning this title is a good start for me. I hope I can win more matches and perform well at the WTT China Smash in Beijing," Sun added.

Lin swept Dang Qiu of Germany 11-5, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8 in the men's singles final to win the tournament for the first time in his career. On his way to the top of the podium, Lin defeated a series of heavyweights including world No. 8 Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan and world No. 1 Wang Chuqin of China.

"I think I did an okay job in this match," Lin said. "I was well-prepared for it. It's better than what I expected because I never thought that I could reach the final or even win the title. I performed better than I thought probably because I carried on my good form from the last tournament (in Almaty). Every match I won was a boost to my confidence."
