Historic lantern fair lights up Beijing for Mid-Autumn Festival

01:29

Lanterns are an essential part of China's Mid-Autumn Festival, as they symbolize family reunions and prayers for good luck and fortune. They come in all shapes and sizes — lighting up the night to create a festive atmosphere.  At the biggest ever lantern fair held in Beijing, more than 200 sets have been displayed in an urban park, covering a space of more than 40 hectares. Along with the lantern sets, there are also 100,000 vibrant decorations. The lantern fair is divided into nine themed zones, with titles such as "beautiful landscapes", "Beijing culture" and "colorful childhood." Also on display are lanterns from Zigong, known as the "city of a thousand lights" in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, for its history of lantern-making dating back more than a millennium.
