Al Nassr fired head coach Luis Castro on Tuesday, after starting the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League season with one win and two draws.
"Al Nassr can announce that head coach Luis Castro has left the club," the club announced on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Luis and his staff for their dedicated work during the past 14 months, wishing them the best of luck for the future."
Since Castro appointment as Al Nassr's coach in July 2023, the team tallied 36 wins, nine draws and nine losses in 54 games, failing to win any titles despite having stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and Aymeric Laporte on their roster. The club finished second in the Saudi Pro League last season, but trailed champions Al Hilal by 14 points.
Al Nassr were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Shorta of the Iraq Stars League in their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite opener on the road on Tuesday.
Castro's departure marks Al Nassr's second change in the coaching position since Ronaldo joined the club in January 2023. The first shakeup saw Rudi Garcia depart in April 2023.
Ronaldo has scored 62 goals and added 17 assists in 69 appearances in his time at Al Nassr.
