China's first high diving team is looking to make history in its international debut at next month's World Junior High Diving Championships in Brazil.

The team is based in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, and trains at the world's first fixed high diving facility, where the highest board stands at 27 meters. The designer and builder of this facility is Feng Yingxiong, a veteran diver who has been involved with the sport for more than 50 years.

Brazil's capital Brasília will host the High Diving World Cup from October 11th to 13th, with this year's edition also doubling as the inaugural World Junior High Diving Championships. 17-year-old and 18-year-old athletes will compete at 15 meters, while those aged 15 and 16 will compete at 12 meters. Four young Chinese divers, including one boy and three girls aged 17 and below, will take part in three events in South America.

"China usually win all of the titles in comprehensive diving, but when it comes to high diving, we are relatively weak in this event on the global stage. So through our high diving training sessions and demonstrations, I hope more athletes who love the sport can participate," Feng said.

"Our primary goal for next month's competition is to learn, improve our understanding and broaden our horizons. So I hope our divers can achieve good results, which will later inspire more Chinese people to learn about high diving," he concluded.
