CGTN will soon launch The Gateway of Time, an AR experience that takes you through China's 75-year transformation, all within the homes of its people – from a farmer's home in the 1950s to an urban factory worker's home in the 1990s, and finally, a modern urban household.

In each scene, we provide data from that specific era within the full 75-year picture to give you a broader understanding of life during those times.

In the first scene, we step into the life of a farmer's family in the early years of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

This era, from the 1950s to the 1970s, was marked by the dominance of the primary industry in employment and its contribution to GDP. Our protagonist, Jianguo, like most people at that time, worked on the farmland and lived in a rural area, reflecting the low level of urbanization in the period.
