Home shuttlers make quarterfinals in all events at China open

Chinese players have appeared in the quarterfinals of all five events at the China Open in Changzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, after Thursday's competitions.

Home shuttler Weng Hongyang came back to defeat Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei 20-22, 21-18, 21-15, advancing to the men's singles last 8. Lei Lanxi knocked out Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-8, 21-17. Weng will face Anders Antonsen of Denmark next and Lei will play Indonesia's Jonatan Christie. If both Chinese players win, they will meet each other in the semifinals.

Wang Zhiyi of China beat her compatriot Zhang Yiman 29-27, 21-21 in the women’s singles round of 16 match on Thursday. Wang will continue to play another home player, Gao Fangjie, in the quarterfinals. Gao eliminated Sung Shuo-yun of Chinese Taipei 9-21, 21-13, 21-17 on the same day.

On the men's doubles side, He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu beat Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard of Denmark 21-11, 21-16, becoming the only Chinese pair in the quarterfinals. They will compete with Danish opponents, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, again for a spot in the semifinals.

Four home pairs made the women's doubles quarterfinals. Li Wenmei and Zhang Shuxian defeated Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong of South Korea 22-20, 21-16. Jia Yifan and Zheng Yu knocked out Sung Shuo-yun and Yu Chien-hui of Chinese Taipei 21-9, 22-20. Li Wenmei and Zhang will compete with Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na of South Korea for semifinals qualification. Jia and Zheng will also play a South Korean pair, Lee Yu-lim and Shin Seung-chan, in the quarterfinals.

Li Yijing and Luo Xumin beat Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan of Malaysia 21-16, 21-18 to reach the quarterfinals where they will play their compatriots, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning. Liu and Tan defeated Yeung Pui Lam and Yeung Nga Ting of China's Hong Kong 21-18, 21-12 to progress on Thursday.

Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping booked two berths for China in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Cheng and Zhang beat Vestergaard and Christine Busch of Denmark 22-20, 19-21, 21-9. Feng and Huang eliminated Wang Chi-lin and Hsu Yin-hui of Chinese Taipei 21-12, 21-10.
