Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit three home runs and got two stolen bases in their 20-4 big win over the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, on Thursday. The 30-year-old also became the first player in the Major League Baseball (MLB) history to have at least 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in one season.

Ohtani had got 49 stolen bases and 48 homers before Thursday's game. He picked up his 50th steal of the season in the first inning and then added his 51st in the second. His 49th home run of the season came in the sixth inning when he blew the ball 438 feet into LoanDepot Park's second deck.

The Dodgers had players on second and third with two outs when Ohtani returned to the bat. Mike Baumann took a 1-2 curveball and Ohtani turned into his historic blast. His third homer happened in the ninth inning, a 440-foot triple over infielder Vidal Brujan. The Dodgers scored six runs during this inning.

"Happy, relieved and very respectful to the peers and everybody who came before me to play this sport of baseball," Ohtani said. "Being honest, it was something I wanted to get it over as soon as possible. The balls were being exchanged every time I came up to bat."

Having secured their 92nd win of the season, the Dodgers have clinched qualification for the playoffs, extending their postseason appearance streak to 12 seasons.

"The individual performance tonight was remarkable," the Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said. "With this game of baseball, it was a win for Major League Baseball. I know people all over the globe were watching this game and we're excited to see that they got a chance to witness history."
