At the ongoing BWF China Open in Changzho, China's Weng Hongyang came from behind to beat Denmark's Anders Antonsen 2-1 and reach the men's singles semifinals on Friday.

In their previous four meetings, Antonsen achieved an unbeaten run, and again took the opening game on Friday 21-19. The Chinese fought back in the second to lead 4-1 with a drop shot. The 25-year-old Weng levelled the match as he powered a smash to win the game 21-19. The duo were neck and neck in the third where Weng sealed the deal 23-21 to clinch his first victory over the Dane. He will next face Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in the semifinals.

Earlier on Friday, Christie got past China's Lei Lanxi, who stunned Olympic champion Victor Axelsen in the first round. World number eight Christie showed better form when it came to crucial points and took the opener 21-18. He maintained momentum and went up 13-8 midway through the second game before he completed the victory 21-12.

On the women's side, China's third-seed Wang Zhiyi secured a comeback win over compatriot Gao Fangjie 13-21, 21-11, 21-14 to reach the semifinals where Japan's Ohori Aya awaits.
