BWF China Open: Weng, Wang advance to singles finals, PRC guaranteed women's doubles title

China's Weng Hongyang beat Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in straight games 21-17, 21-18 to reach the men's singles final at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Open on Saturday, in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.

The 25-year-old Weng took 59 minutes to put away the seventh-seeded Christie. Weng will meet Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the final, after the sixth seed defeated eighth-seeded Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 21-17, 21-13 in the other semifinal.

In the women's singles semifinals, third-seeded Wang Zhiyi of China eased past Aya Ohori of Japan in straight games 21-15, 21-18 to reach Sunday's final, where she will take on 18-year-old Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan.

The women's doubles title match will be an all-Chinese affair, as Li Wenmei and Zhang Shuxian go up against Li Yijing and Luo Xumin. In the semifinals, Li Wenmei and Zhang stunned fifth-seeded compatriots Jia Yifan and Zheng Yu 21-17, 22-20, while Li Yijing and Luo brushed aside eighth-seeded South Korean pair Jeong Nae-un and Kim Hye-jeong 21-12, 21-14.
