Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, on Saturday extended condolences to To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Vietnamese president, over the typhoon disaster in Vietnam.

In his message, Xi noted that the northern provinces of Vietnam were recently hit by Typhoon Yagi, which caused heavy casualties and property loss.

On behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government and people, Xi said he would like to extend deep condolences to the victims and express sincere sympathy to the bereaved families and people in the disaster-stricken areas.

China and Vietnam, as friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers and a community with a shared future of strategic significance, have forged a profound friendship of "comrades plus brothers," Xi said, adding that China is ready to assist Vietnam within its capacity.

Xi also expressed his belief that the Vietnamese people in the disaster-stricken areas will overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes at an early date under the leadership of the CPV and the Vietnamese government.
