Special cultural events celebrating the upcoming 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1 were held in Mexico City, Mexico, last Friday and Canberra, Australia, on Monday.
"Written in the Sky: My China Story" is a series of cultural events launched by China Media Group (CMG) in March 2024 to gather individual stories related to China from around the world.
At the event in Mexico, Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, said in a speech that different words convey common sentiments, representing the deep integration of emotions and cultures of countries around the world, embedding people's aspirations for peace and beauty, and condensing the profound power of friendship across borders.
Zhang Run, Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, said this year marks the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. Over the years, thanks to the joint efforts of all sectors of the Chinese and Mexican communities, the traditional friendship between the two countries has continued to deepen, he added. Each of these stories represents the dynamic development of the relationship between China and Mexico, Zhang said.
Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky said her relationship with China began more than 30 years ago, and she is full of appreciation and admiration for China, a country with 5,000 years of civilization and splendid culture.
Mark Bacon, former CEO of the Tasmanian branch of the Australia China Business Council, praised China for its hospitality. Mark said his privileged position allowed him to enjoy the hospitality, which he will always be very thankful for.
At the event in Canberra, Xiao Qian, Chinese Ambassador to Australia, said that thanks to the joint efforts of the two countries, the relationship between China and Australia has gradually returned to the right track, showing a positive momentum of steady improvement.
Andrew Hogg, executive general manager of eastern markets and aviation at Tourism Australia, said China is one of Australia's top sources of international tourists. Its high-tech developments, such as mobile payments, have brought many conveniences to tourism between Australia and China, and cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism will play an important role in enhancing mutual understanding between the Australian and Chinese populations, Hogg added.
Colin Mackerras, winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award and professor emeritus at Griffith University, said via video that he has witnessed China's great achievements in economic and social development. China is not a threat but an opportunity for Australia, he added, hoping that Australia and China will further deepen cooperation in economy and trade and become good friends and partners.
