Missiles were intercepted over the Israeli city of Haifa early on September 24, as Israel stepped up operations against the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon.

The Israeli military said it hit more than 1,600 targets linked to Hezbollah weapons sites on September 23, and was expanding its operation. Hezbollah's rocket launches were in response to an Israeli air strike on a Beirut suburb on September 20 that killed a top Hezbollah military commander and more than a dozen of the group's members, along with civilians including women and children.
