The Badain Jaran Temple, also known as the "Forbidden City in the Desert," was built some 200 years ago by devout followers of Tibetan Buddhism. At that time, all the bricks, tiles, and wood used to build the temple were carried across the desert by camels and livestock from hundreds of kilometers away, according to researchers.

The temple has a magnificent, solemn and elegant appearance. Although it is located on a lakeside, it has never been submerged, showing that the water levels there have changed very little.
