Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed China's strong support for Lebanon in maintaining its security and condemned Israel's large-scale attacks on Lebanon, during a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib in New York on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, expressed China's strong support for Lebanon in maintaining its sovereignty, security, and national dignity. He reaffirmed that, regardless of changing circumstances, China will consistently stand on the side of justice and support its Arab allies, including Lebanon.

Wang highlighted China's concern over the recent explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon and condemned the indiscriminate attacks on civilians. He also denounced the large-scale airstrikes conducted by Israel, which resulted in significant casualties, stating that such actions violate fundamental principles of international relations and warrant strong condemnation.

In response, Bou Habib expressed gratitude for China's longstanding friendship and support. He noted that China has played a crucial role in advocating for justice on the international stage, defending the rights of developing countries.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining sovereignty and independence for small nations like Lebanon, especially within the framework of the United Nations. Bou Habib mentioned that Lebanon is currently facing severe challenges, with over 300 fatalities reported due to recent Israeli airstrikes.

Wang reiterated that violence will only exacerbate humanitarian crises. He urged the international community to adopt a clearer stance and called for regional solidarity to voice stronger support. He outlined China's position advocating for a "permanent ceasefire and complete troop withdrawal" as well as the effective implementation of a "two-state solution," suggesting that these steps are essential for resolving the ongoing conflict.

Wang expressed China's willingness to collaborate with Arab nations and the international community to promote peace and stability in the region. He also urged the Lebanese government to take effective measures to protect Chinese citizens residing in Lebanon.

Bou Habib assured Wang that Lebanon will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in the country, expressing appreciation for China's commitment to justice and support.
