A Chinese mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday that Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' sharp increase in media budget exposes their attempt to manipulate public opinion.

The DPP authorities have reportedly increased the budget for next year's "media policy and business advocacy expenses" by 65 percent, reaching more than 1.49 billion new Taiwan dollars, which has caused public outcry.

In pursuit of their political self-interests, the DPP authorities are fabricating and spreading false information across the board, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, told a press conference.

Through their nurtured online forces, they stir up trouble on the internet, suppress dissent, divide society and create "green terror," leaving the public fearful and causing chaos, Zhu added.

Despite strong dissatisfaction and criticism from all sectors on the island, the DPP authorities have not shown any restraint and have become more brazen, she said.

Zhu said this will inevitably lead to widespread cyberbullying, rampant online rumors, severely disrupting Taiwan's social order and seriously harming public interest.

Committing unjust acts will lead to self-destruction, she said, adding that the DPP's misdeeds will surely be met with backlash from public opinion.
