The 2024 Annual Academic Conference of the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams and the 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety opened on Tuesday in Yichang, central China's Hubei Province. The two-day high-profile event brings together nearly 900 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries to discuss the future of dam safety, construction and sustainability. The conference's theme, "Building a Safe, Resilient and Green National Water Network," focuses on key issues like the safety and resilience of reservoir dams, the impact of digital technology on dam construction and how dams can support the development of low-carbon, sustainable energy systems. Yichang is home of the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project.
