Hurricane Helene intensified and struck Cancun and other parts of Mexico with heavy rain and fierce winds on September 25.
Mexico's meteorological service issued warnings of torrential rain and "very strong" winds in affected areas. According to the National Hurricane Center, Helene was expected to bring tropical storm conditions to portions of Mexico in the evening, along with a catastrophic and potentially deadly storm surge along parts of Florida's Big Bend coast.
