Jihao Youguo, a 14-year-old girl from the mountainous Sanhe Village in southwest China's Sichuan Province, has a vivid recollection of the Spring Festival in 2018, when her family received a special guest: President Xi Jinping.
On February 11 that year, Xi and his colleagues drove along the winding mountain road to Sanhe Village, an impoverished place at that time. While visiting Jihao Youguo's home, Xi asked how the family was earning a living and whether the children were attending school. He also encouraged Jihao Youguo to sing a song and praised her performance. Then he sat down with the villagers to point out a way forward for the village's poverty alleviation.
Five years have passed, Jihao Youguo's family and the entire village have seen tremendous changes. Jihao Youguo now studies in Xichang City, where she receives a better education. The villagers have all moved from adobe houses to modern houses, with the average household income having greatly increased.
Sanhe Village is an example of China's shift from a poverty alleviation drive to rural revitalization with the goal of common prosperity, which is an important part of the Chinese modernization process. Check out the video for more.
