The qualifying rounds of the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash are getting underway today at Shougang Park in Beijing. The tournament is part of a premier series on the table tennis circuit, similar to Grand Slam events in tennis.

As the first Smash series in Beijing, this 10-day event celebrates the return of elite international table tennis in the Chinese capital for 63 years, with a massive prize purse of two million US dollars.

Despite the absence of Olympic champions Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng, China have a strong team led by world number ones Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha. Both players are aiming for success after an impressive year of competitions.

"The recent Olympic Games brought about a significant transformation in my mindset and mentality. Therefore, I no longer subject myself to harsh self-criticism before matches, avoiding a state of suppression and anxiety. I aim to approach the upcoming matches in a relaxed and accepting manner," Wang talked about his post-Olympic mindset for rest of year.

"I hope to transmit positive energy to the younger generation through this competition. I aspire to be a role model for them, so I have been striving to improve myself. I hope to deliver thrilling performances and set a better example for everyone," said Sun, who has aimed to inspire younger players with her performances.
