Hurricane Helene strengthened into a Category 4 storm on Thursday night, with forecasters warning that the storm could intensify further as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico on its path toward Florida. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that the hurricane was located approximately 692 kilometers southwest of Tampa, Florida, with sustained winds of 137 kilometers per hour.
