Li Yajie won the women's 1-meter springboard final with 313.03 points at the Chinese National Diving Championship in east China's Shanghai Municipality on Thursday, securing the first gold medal for Shanxi Province at the tournament.
Since the 1-meter springboard event has been included in the Chinese National Games as a medal event again, teams sent their best athletes to compete in Shanghai. Li and Lin Shan were two of the favorites for Thursday's contest. Li won the title of the event at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in 2022. Lin won it in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2023.
Li led all divers in each of the five rounds scoring 70.5 points in her fifth attempt after completing a 305C with a degree of difficulty of 3.0. Lin came in second, 23.7 points behind Li.
"I could do it during daily practice, but didn't do it well in past competitions." Li told reporters. "I just tried to maintain a peaceful mind and focus on completing the process well."
"I was behind Li a bit on every front, so I lost," Lin said. "Personally I think I did well during previous practice. I was injured before I traveled to compete here. So, I lacked systematic training recently. There wasn't much I could do about it."
