We Talk: Confucius in the eyes of South Africans

Global Stringer

04:31

The 2024 China International Confucius Cultural Festival in Qufu, east China's Shandong Province, is set to begin on September 27, celebrating 2,575 years since the birth of the Chinese philosopher.

CGTN Stringer visited South Africa to ask people about their views on Confucianism. Clea Schultz Mofokeng shared that the foundational Confucian virtue of "ren" or benevolence is similar to a South African concept known as Ubuntu, which encourages people to be kind to others. Another interviewee, Greta Frieslaar, said she supports universal access to education, which Confucius championed over 2,500 years ago.
