On September 25, the China-Vietnam Dialogue on Higher Education in Journalism and Communication took place in Beijing. Hosted by Communication University of China, the aim of this event was to implement the outcomes of the meetings of the top leaders of both countries during recent bilateral exchanges.
Involving leaders and scholars from 19 Chinese universities and 9 Vietnamese universities, participants engaged in discussions regarding cooperation between China and Vietnam in fields such as journalism, communication education, and cultural exchanges. Notable participating institutions included Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University in Hanoi, the Academy of Journalism and Communication, and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
During the meeting, Zhang Zheng, China’s Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in media education to strengthen the cultural exchanges between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of encouraging universities to actively engage in international cultural exchange initiatives and leverage new media to enhance cultural tourism and youth interactions between China and Vietnam.
In addition, Liao Xiangzhong, Party Secretary of the Communication University of China, stated that universities from both countries should establish a long-term mechanism to promote dialogue. Stressing the priority of the role of cultural exchange in such efforts, he stated that he wished to see the scope and significance of cooperation in the fields of journalism and communication education expand in the years to come. He also went on to affirm the Communication University of China’s commitment to providing a solid platform for exchange and cooperation between the two nations' universities.
Meanwhile, Dang Hoai Thu, Vice President of Hanoi University of Culture, acknowledged that China and Vietnam are friendly neighboring countries with many commonalities in politics, history, and culture. Under the leadership of the top leaders of both countries, this year has seen China and Vietnam embark on a new journey to build a strategically significant community of shared destiny. With bilateral relationships now elevated to a new level, she expressed her hope that the forum would facilitate in-depth exchanges between the two countries' universities on journalism education and talent cultivation, paving the way for even more cooperation in the years to come.
The universities taking part in the meeting unanimously agreed that since next year will be the "Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange", the establishment of a dialogue mechanism would greatly facilitate comprehensive collaboration in talent cultivation and curriculum development as well as academic research in journalism, media arts, language and culture.
