Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday proposed four suggestions while attending the third informal meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Russia, Pakistan and Iran regarding the Afghan issue on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York. Wang, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that over the past three years, Afghanistan's situation has undergone a stable transition overall; however, there remains a long way to go for reconstruction and development, with many difficulties and challenges for long-term stability.
He emphasized the importance of building security together by strengthening intelligence exchange and sharing, and expanding law enforcement and security cooperation to eradicate violent terrorist groups within Afghanistan. He also called for the implementation of comprehensive measures to jointly promote the Tunxi Initiative, which supports Afghanistan's reconstruction.
Wang stressed the need to uphold justice by making Afghanistan a platform for cooperation among all parties rather than a venue for geopolitical competition. Finally, he urged the international community to provide positive guidance by focusing on the most urgent challenges facing Afghanistan.
