Chinese paddler Sun Yingsha will compete in one of the toughest sections at the coming World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash in Beijing, according to the draw results released on Friday.
As the No. 1 seed of the tournament, Sun will face Natalia Bajor of Poland in the women's singles first round. She is in the same section with Mima Ito and Miu Hirano of Japan plus her compatriot, No. 3 seed Wang Yidi.
Second-seeded Wang Manyu of China is in the other half of the women's singles competitions. She will play a wildcard home player Shi Xunyao in the first round. Wang Manyu's potential opponents include her compatriot, fourth-seeded Chen Xingtong.
Men's singles world No. 1 Wang Chuqin will begin his journey by playing Hiroto Shinozuka of Japan in the first round. He's in the same half with Swedish No. 11 seed Truls Moregardh, who knocked Wang Chuqin out at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
Chinese veteran Ma Long is listed as the fifth seed of the tournament and in the same section with his compatriot, No. 5 seed Liang Jingkun. Ma will play Liam Pitchford of England in the first round.
Ma and Liang are in the same half with second-seeded Hugo Calderano of Brazil.
The China Smash competitions will begin on Sunday.
