A 100-day-old panda cub, born to Meng Meng, the eldest of the world's only giant panda triplets, is growing healthily and is in good shape, according to Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou City, south China's Guangdong Province.
The zoo held a public event to celebrate the adorable panda's first 100 days on Thursday.
The conservation team conducted a physical examination of the cub on the same day. The female baby bear has grown remarkably from 178 grams at birth to over 5 kilograms and has 13 teeth, said the conservation team after the checkup.
"The cub is now fed three to four times a day, each time for about five to ten minutes. It sleeps most of the time except for eating. We are currently increasing its sun exposure. We take it outdoors around 8 a.m. every day for half an hour of sunbathing to promote the growth of its bones and muscles," said Chen Siming, a panda keeper.
After the physical examination, the baby panda returned to the exhibition area and slept on a special "100-family quilt," a patchwork blanket sewn from "blessing cloth" brought by visitors, symbolizing the blessings of numerous families in Cantonese culture.
Chimelong Safari Park announced that the panda cub will be officially introduced to tourists during the upcoming National Day holiday. This adorable addition, born on June 18, is also the first newborn giant panda at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas this year.
