Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed critical topics, including Taiwan, the South China Sea, and technology with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the need for the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle, publicly oppose "Taiwan independence," and support China's peaceful reunification. He also voiced China's strong opposition to U.S. economic and technological suppression and interference in the South China Sea.

Wang remarked that stabilizing China-U.S. relations benefits both nations, but criticized the U.S. for its "two-faced" approach: suppressing China while simultaneously seeking dialogue. He called for a rational understanding of China-U.S. relations, urging respect in dialogues, mutual cooperation and careful handling of differences instead of unilateral actions.

Highlighting the threat posed by "Taiwan independence," Wang stated that such actions undermine peace in the Taiwan Straits. He reiterated that if the U.S. genuinely seeks stability in the region, it must uphold the one-China principle, cease arms sales to Taiwan, and support China's peaceful reunification efforts.

Wang also condemned the U.S. for politicizing national security and interfering in China's internal affairs under the guise of human rights. He stressed the importance of cultural exchanges and urged the U.S. to remove barriers to foster these interactions.

Regarding the South China Sea, he reaffirmed China's commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue with directly involved parties, urging the U.S. to refrain from inciting tensions that disrupt regional peace.

On the Ukraine issue, Wang reiterated China's stance of promoting dialogue and peace, calling for the U.S. to halt its smear campaigns and sanctions against China, which he said exacerbate divisions.

Both parties acknowledged the candid and substantive nature of their meeting, agreeing on the necessity of finding a path toward peaceful coexistence. They expressed commitments to implementing key agreements from the two heads of state's meeting in San Francisco, enhancing dialogue, managing differences, and promoting stable, healthy bilateral relations while maintaining communication on regional and international issues.
