Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called for implementing the two-state solution in solving the Palestine-Israel conflict.
Wang, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a UN Security Council high-level meeting on the Middle East, in New York.
Wang urged greater efforts to promote a permanent ceasefire and comprehensive troop withdrawal in the Gaza Strip. "The parties to the conflict must fully implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and avoid taking any more risky actions that escalate the tensions," he said.
He encouraged all Palestinian factions to implement the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity, voicing support for the Palestinian Authority in enhancing its governance capabilities to achieve effective jurisdiction over all Palestinian territories.
The UN Security Council should support Palestine in becoming a full member of the United Nations and make new efforts to implement the two-state solution, he said, adding that China supports to convene a larger, more authoritative and more effective international peace conference and formulate a timetable and roadmap for the implementation of the two-state solution.
It is necessary to increase humanitarian assistance, ensure effective access to humanitarian supplies, and support the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in continuing to play an important role, he said.
Wang said China never interferes in the internal affairs of countries in the Middle East, and never exploits hotspot issues to seek geopolitical interests.
China is ready to work with all peace-loving countries, including Arab and Islamic countries, to make unremitting efforts in curbing the spillover of the conflict, implementing the two-state solution, and promoting peace in the Middle East.
