As the world turns towards sustainability, China is leading the way. Under President Xi Jinping's vision of ecological civilization, China has made impressive progress in green development. Today, China is a global leader in hydropower, wind, solar and biomass energy, and dominates the clean energy equipment market.
China's green push goes beyond energy. For the last eight years, China has been the world's top producer and seller of new energy vehicles (NEVs) supported by the largest network of charging stations globally. I believe this shows China's strong commitment to integrating green development into the economic growth.
China's experience offers valuable lessons for Africa where economic growth and environmental protection need to go hand in hand. Africa is rich in natural resources, but vulnerable to climate change. Collaboration with China could enhance Africa's own green development plans.
China and Africa have many opportunities for green cooperation. Platforms like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are already opening doors for collaboration in green technology and infrastructure.
Africa has also the groundwork with initiatives like Agenda 2063 and the African Development Bank's green program. By joining forces, China and Africa can drive forward a green developing agenda that serves both continents.
As China deepens its engagement with Africa on green development, it can open up new opportunities that benefit not just African economies, but global sustainability efforts as well.
This partnership, I believe, could be a model for how countries can work together to tackle climate change while still fostering economic growth. China's green development journey gives us hope. It shows that we can move towards a more sustainable future without sacrificing economic progress.
As Africa shapes its own green development path, China's experience and partnership offer a strong foundation and opportunity to leapfrog some of the most damaging technologies and innovate new systems and structures that reflect Africa's role as a conservator.
I believe that through strong and educated leadership, we can all work together to adapt while also are evolving to a more developed and resilient future.
