Event hosts Sichuan Yuanda Meile beat Japan's Fujitsu Red Wave 73-69 in the final to win the inaugural FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia title with three straight victories in front of their home fans in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Saturday.

After Sichuan defeated the Surabaya Fever and Cathay Life in their first two games, they faced last season's Japan Basketball League champions Fujitsu in the final, and maintained their momentum as Gao Song got the home side on the board with a three-pointer.

Two of the Chinese national team's key players linked up, with Li Meng dishing to Han Xu, and Sichuan led by one.

Gao later drilled another triple and that extended their lead to double digits. The 32-year-old forward kept the hot hand after halftime and nailed three more of her 18 points.

Han also caught fire from beyond the arc, with the center's three-pointer in the third quarter extending the lead to 20 for the hosts.

The Japanese club fought back as Uchio Akina stole the ball and went the other way for a lay-up.

But Han protected the rim for Sichuan down the stretch, en route to a game-high 24 points, along with six rebounds and two blocks.

Gao was rejected late in the fourth quarter, but recovered for a reverse layup and Sichuan went on to prevail by four.

The two-time reigning WCBA champions made history as the first-ever winners of the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia, with Han earning Most Valuable Player honors.
