Tang Qianting from Shanghai broke her own Asian record in the semifinals of the women's 50m breaststroke at China's National Swimming Championships in Wuhan, Hubei Province, on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Tang, who claimed silver in the women's 100m breaststroke at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, won gold in the same event on Thursday at the National Championships.

After turning her attention to the 50m, she took the lead from the start and continued to pull away as she touched the wall first and broke her own Asian record in a time of 28.95 seconds.

"The result is as expected, as I can finish in a time of 29.3 seconds in the first half of the 100 meters, so it's not difficult for me to get this result in the 50 meters. I hope I can continue to create records at the Shanghai stop and try to break the world record," Tang said.

Hubei native Sun Jiajun overwhelmed the competition in the men's 50m breaststroke semifinals. The Paris Olympics men's 4×100m medley relay gold medalist finished first in 25.72 seconds, breaking the Asian record previously held by his compatriot Yan Zibei.

In the women's 100m butterfly final, Wang Yichun of Shandong topped the podium in 56.06 seconds, while 17-year-old Chen Lu from Fujian, who holds the world youth record in the women's 200m butterfly, came in second.

Hebei native Yu Zidi captured gold in the women's 400m individual medley in 4 minutes, 30.21 seconds.
