In the Ailao Mountains, located in southwest China's Yunnan Province, lives an endangered species with the majestic name "dragon bird." This species is the green peafowl, and it is native to China. Its breast and neck are adorned with scaly golden feathers, which give it its name. The green peafowl is thought to be the ancient prototype of the mythic phoenix, a symbol of civilization and virtue.
