China's Paris Olympics gold medalist Zheng Qinwen came back from a set down to beat American Amanda Anisimova and reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 event China Open for the first time.

5th seed Zheng clipped the net but Anismova ran to reach it and win the first set 6-3. Home favorite Zheng bounced back in dominant fashion to reach break point with a backhand winner.

Zheng won the set 6-1 when the American returned into the net. The Australian Open runner-up continued her dominance in the third set, winning it 6-2 with a powerful serve.

"I am very happy just to get the victory today and arrive for the first time in the quarter-finals," she said.

Zheng will face Mirra Andreeva of Russia in the quarter-finals on Friday.
