Chinese wildcard player Wu Yibing defeated No. 25 seed Nicolas Jarry of Chile 6-2, 6-1 in the men's singles second round at the Shanghai Masters in east China's Shanghai Municipality on Friday, advancing to round of 32 at the tournament for the first time in six years.

After claiming his first win on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour since the U.S. Open, when he beat Sumit Nagal of India in the first round, Wu extended his good form against Jarry. He converted an early break in the second game and opened the first set with a 3-0 lead. Then in the eighth game, Wu earned three break points and successfully converted the final attempt, taking the set to grab a 1-0 lead in the match.

Wu proved even more unstoppable in the second set, holding his first three service games while breaking Jarry twice to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Although the Chilean held serve in the sixth game, Wu smashed through his defense with a series of excellent serves to seal the deal just one game later.

"I felt great," Wu told reporters at the post-match press conference. "I played well today. It might be one of the best-performing matches of my career. Jarry is a heavy hitter. I had prepared a lot for the battle."

Buyunchaokete of China exited the Shanghai Masters in the first round after losing to Alex Michelsen, with the American prevailing 6-3, 6-4. That result was in contrast to the last time the pair had faced off, when Buyunchaokete came out on top in the second round at the U.S. Open.

Michelsen held his first four service games at the Qizhong Tennis Center and then converted his first break to take a 5-3 lead against Buyunchaokete, before holding serve to wrap up the first set.

The American opened the second set with a break and maintained his lead to the end. Buyunchaokete held in the ninth game to keep the match alive by closing the gap to 5-4, but Michelsen held in the next game to end the contest and reach the second round.
