China's leading pipa soloist Zhao Cong will take center stage, with her instrument's exquisite tones set to harmonize beautifully with the rich sounds of China Symphony Orchestra.
"This piece 'Ancient Bells of Peking Central Axis' was specifically composed for Zhao Cong, and her collaboration with the orchestra is expected to vividly bring the historical significance of the Central Axis to life through music," said Tan Dun at a press event in Beijing, adding that this piece was also composed to reflect the cultural confidence of modern China.
In July this year, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the addition of the "Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital" to its World Heritage List.
